Sometimes I like to take an inspiration break.
Gosh, that sounds obnoxious, right? Don’t worry, I’m not about to bullet point How To Get Inspired at Work with ideas music, meditation and brainstorming sessions with your team.
Instead, I’m going to tell you how I hop on YouTube to watch a 2-6 minute video of people who inspire me on a regular basis. The vloggers I follow are fun, outgoing and passionate people. They love what they do.
I’m not going to be the next David Dobrik or Peter Mckinnon, but they pursued something that brings them joy on a daily basis. Which is… inspiring. I am hooked watching them because it doesn’t even appear as though they are working. Their excitement gets me excited.
Back to Reality
Oh, there goes gravity….sorry I had to.
So one of my favorite YouTubers wraps up their video and I must mentally check back into work. I close out of my YouTube tab and ask myself; instead of taking a break watching a video to feel excited, what changes can I make at work in order to feel inspired? I don’t think it is a YouTube break or the right music playlist, and I am not about to meditate at my desk.
Just a few ideas:
- Reach out to your supervisor and mention projects you would like to participate in.
- Try to attend networking events within your industry.
- Have a hobby? Find out if you can bring that skill to your position.
I mentioned my photography background to an employer and I ended up handling product photography, it was pretty dope to travel for it too. That was one great way to get excited about our products.
Like many other (young) adults, I’m still looking for ways to get inspired. Let me know how you get inspired! – Chime in here.
